What is so good about America?

I dated and was married a few years ago to my ex-fiancé at the time and the relationship didn’t work out of course but one of the things she said to me was “What’s so good about this country?” When she mean this country, she’s referring to America. So, everyone or anyone please explain or tell me what is so good about the USA? Is it a better country than Jamaica? What does the US have that Jamaica don’t?

Advice

I’ve always said this…a Jamaican will sit and watch another Jamaican die. They have no loyalty to each other and most of them have a crab in a barrel mentality. They hate to see people they know doing better than them and are very bad-minded and full of ancient grudges. That makes Jamaica a difficult place to live and most of them watch others come onto their land and be more successful than they are. My last trip there was awful…every business was owned by someone who was either White or Chinese and on the news….countless murders of women AND children. BUT, I heavily digress…The United States has LAWS. They’ve invested heavily into their legal system because it is the only way for the rich to rule over those who are not rich….so in America, you may (depending on the color of your skin and financial background) get justice for being wronged by someone. The United States also has SOME opportunities but again, nothing there comes without a million laws and the people who are successful there, never stay successful long. America also has bragging rights. I’ve met countless Jamaicans in New York City struggling to keep food in their belly, but as long as they can brag to people back home that they are in “foreign”, then it’s all worth it. They are miserable here, especially now since gun violence in NY has the same speed as gun violence in Kingston, it’s just that a cop may kill you in the USA and get away with it. America is not better, the dollar is just more powerful. Many fantasize about leaving BUT won’t because they have been conditioned to believe it is the greatest country in the world. They use to say it was the safest, but with young white men shooting up schools and killing children, that safety talk is out of the door.

Advice

If police kill anyone innocent in such a blatant discrimination and disregard they are sentenced in Jamaica. And if you’re dark skin you can rest knowing people won’t lynch you.

Men are killing their spouse and children all over the world at an alarming rate. America is bigger than Jamaica so you might not hear about the man that offed himself then his children but on Jamaican news you will. Jamaica’s problem is govt corruption and gang violence. If you live in certain places it takes work to not fall into the trap of peer pressure into doing what you see around you, but if people can move outta the ghetto anyone can. Jamaicans are just lazy and easily programmed.

I will give America their diverse fields of study and dollar strength as the only two things that is worth it.

Advice

I just want to preface this by saying in no way do I think America is a bed of roses. It has a lot of issues! These are just a few reasons why even though living in America comes with it’s challenges I am still grateful for the experience. America has provided me more opportunities education and career wise (free community college & more places to work in my field of work), I can travel to more places without needing a Visa with an American passport. While living in America I have more access to people from all around the world, it’s helped to give me a diverse friend group and taught me a lot. It is also great to be paid in US dollars, I can get a lot more value for my money when doing transactions in other countries. There is always work to get in America, from not great paying jobs to great paying jobs, you can make money legally in many ways. I also appreciate the freedom to be who you are in America, just as a comparison, I grew up watching ppl physical hurt ppl who were thought to be gay in JA. While America is not perfect on issues like LGBTQ rights and you can definitely still get hurt while living here, it is more accepting. The work place in Jamaica can be very formal, while in America you can find more jobs that are less focused on how you dress and more focused on the work you do and still make good money. America has more resources, for example my family in Jamaica struggled to get all of their Covid vaccines, while I didn’t have that issue in America. You can get funding for your small business easily. If you find your self being sick and unable to work there are resources here to help you keep your head above water. If you have a disability there are more opportunities here for you as well.

I’ll end this by saying I could also list just as many bad things about America, it is in no way perfect or ideal but like any country it has it’s positive and negatives. I love Jamaica and just like America it too has many positives and negatives.

Advice

Definitely! No country is perfect . I love Jamaica as well but I prefer America too. I have a good government job that’s pays well with no college degree(never attended college) only high school diploma and I highly doubt I would be able to get such a job like this living in Jamaica especially no college degree unless I become an doctor, lawyer, judge or maybe an artist rap and sing drop YouTube videos lol. I strongly believe there’s no future in Jamaica and that’s why more and more people are finding themselves to migrate.

Advice

True. In America you don’t need to be qualified to make money. There are millionaires there and some of them never spent a day in college. So you are right. You can be an airhead and still get a good job in America. Not in Jamaica. They want you to have 67 degrees to direct people from the hotel lobby to their bedroom. Jamaica is just hard on the people in general. Jamaica’s are wicked to each other. They are nice to the Chinese and White people though.

Advice

Nothing else. America is all about money. People in America would leave but they can’t. The money keeps them sending their kids to schools where they have to prepare for active shooters. Money is powerful and that’s why many stay. I left….but others will die there. I won’t

Advice

Most people forgot that America was a place to go get currency to reinvest in their families and grow generational wealth from home..

But everyone who was a migrant got caught up in “the American dream” - a slogan that was pandering to white Americans… but alas the new generation still doesn’t understand the concept of American and is still falling for the marketing tactics.

Advice

Better and more opportunities jobwise! Jamaica reeks of nepotism. Better economy. Idk if it’s less corrupt than Jamaica 🤷🏻‍♀️ . More access to affordable food, help with housing for some less fortunate and food banks. More resources for schools and kids with learning disabilities. More help and awareness for mental issues. It’s not all good but nowhere is.

Advice

Very affordable food in America. Referencing trees in your yard cannot compare to what I’m talking about. Based on my experiences in a few states some grocery food items are very cheap compared to Jamaica.

Advice

  1. The U.S is a country that has career opportunity for people who work hard vs Jamaica where you need connections to move up the corporate ladder or to start and business which is very risky.
  2. The U.S has a lot of entertainment options vs Jamaica which only have parties and the beach.
  3. The U.S have more affordable housing, cars, clothes etc compared to Jamaica relative to the salaries that people get.
  4. The U.S has one of the most stable currencies in the world which is the global reserve currency.
  5. Despite what people claim the U.S probably has the least racism in the world because it’s the one country where no matter what race, religion, colour or creed you can fit into a community due to it’s diversity + it’s illegal and punishable to decriminate in the workforce and minorities are given opportunities just for being a minority. You can actually call the U.S home as it’s a land of immigrants as apposed to Asia or Europe being a brown person.
  6. The U.S is the most powerful and richest country in the world and by virtue of you being a citizen you’re the most safe from any type of threat as it would mean destruction of attacking country.

Advice

Those opportunities for brown folk don’t pan out nearly as much as you would think. As a black person born and bred and still in the states, that’s not how that goes at all.

Sure it’s illegal to discriminate, but so is murder and prostitution and yet it happens everyday. It’s a lot easier to get away with discrimination than most other crimes.

Those immigrants you speak of, are the white ones. People forget that America was founded on a bunch of Europeans coming over and stealing land and raping and pillaging and genociding their way to starting a new country.

People are killed in America just for the color of their skin. Their citizenship does not save them. When the home country is the country that’s doing the attacking, who do you call on for help?

Advice

America is not a good place. It is full of hate and wickedness.America have rudeness When you walking the road in the Caribbean you greet people mawning, hmmm, I nearly get a box a time for saying mawning in the states. No papa, neva me again.

Advice

I don’t hate America to say there is nothing good there while I fear being there because of the greater possibility of getting hurt in many ways, you still I will visit but maybe not live there for too long..I think the people will always be the best resource of any land..so while there are opportunities there is a wider gap across when it comes to how well people are educated and integrated..our sins are though most people think is ok..so it’s really a case of compassion, not competition nor dog eat dog but to love is the solution
