How can Jamaicans solve Jamaica's problem?

Jamaica's problems are easy to identify, but how can we solve them? What contribution can we make, individually, collectively, public and private?

Advice

Organize organize organize politically. Oh yea and just being decent ppl. A lot of people aren’t. Had a bus conductor gave me a threatening death stare because (guess why??) because I didn’t want to drive in his bus.

Advice

I had 2 conductors fight over me in the bus park. Both were asking me to come into the bus at the same time and I didn’t know which to choose so one grabbed me and then the other held onto my hand. It was a tug of war. Then one literally scooped me into his arms and kidnapped me into the bus. Bare chaos. I love my people lmao 🤣🤣

Advice

You right, collective organisation is the only way to go. No elections nor individual change work.

Workers are starting to organise in the US and for the first time in decades, it brings about change for them.

Advice

The politicians are Jamaicans, and only better politicians can really solve the problems. So the other Jamaicans need to insist on better people becoming politicians.

Of course there is the community stuff like stay in school, don’t kill each other, pay taxes, nuh dutty up Jamaica

Advice

Yup, only politicians can change the “system” itself, individually we can change our lives personally for the better but to effect change on a grandeur scale it’s done via politicians and their policies.

Advice

This will depend on the people because whoever is in power needs to please their masters to remain in power.

Start with the food.

Imported things cause disease, especially the processed foods. You get sick and require imported medical equipment and drugs.

But Jamaicans seem to want to be like the Americans, big fat and fool, glued to their TVs and social media, consuming ads that tell them they need more of their products.

Advice

Food bill would go up and the poor and middle class can’t afford for us to stop importing food. Most of the chicken neck and back and other cheap foods that we consume are not local and it’s because it’s cheaper for locals even when we import them.

Advice

Yea it’s tricky. The Americans have big agricultural subsidies.

But as quantity and scale increase, the quality decreases. The Americans are optimizing this process to get a bit more output from organic foods as opposed to mass produced stuff. But we’re still getting the garbage qualities.

It’s a trade off people will have to make.

If someone can raise organic chicken to sell at a cost to you for $100/lb and someone comes in to sell you bag feed (decrease quality of meat, increases cancer/heart disease) that allows you to product at $80/lb, should the baseline now be $80/lb?

Advice

Make the island safer so those who migrated will want to come back to help. Get rid of the corruption, crooked cops, and land should only be sold to those with Jamaican ancestry. Zero tolerance for violence. Clean up Jamaica.

Advice

Main issue with Jamaica is the Government and the Hothead nature. Everybody think they are the badess people and nobody can’t touch them. The music doesn’t help with this either.

Government mainly looking out for themself, and Jamaicans mainly looking out for themselves as well, which leads to greed, bad mind and murders.

A lot needs to change, but it need to start with the Government. If the Government corrupt then it just spread to the citizens and other people in high position of power.

Advice

Who elected the government? If they are corrupt, we are corrupt as people too. They represent us. They can only do what we allow them to do. If we demand better collectively and insist on them doing better, they will have no choice.

Advice

Make better use of island resources and invest more into IT and infrastructure. I’m fine with tourism making JA some money, but it can’t be the main income source. Oh and stop dealing with the Chinese. They like to screw over other countries

Advice

Not really sure, as of right now we are a country where the biggest commodity is people in the hotel industry and migrants. The way I see it any change we need has been attempted but given up mid way due to the lack of immediate effects, the eat what you grow campaign was one of those that I was behind, but that died down would love if our primary food in take was home grown, crops that were wasting a country had proper channels to manufacturing agencies. Our power being heavily dependent on fuel is also a problem. Im not one of those to say bring in renewables because that can’t fuel power plants under every condition. Im open to nuclear power, the introduction would come with heavy scrutiny from foreign bodies, worse with our China relationship

Advice

This is a complex question and if it was answerable within a Reddit sub, it would have been implemented all over the world. If something is provable, it will more than likely get proved. Same for a question like this.

Advice

Agree that we heading the wrong way, but can we blame a corrupt government when every Jamaican that has been pulled over by police knows what left or right means? Every Jamaican has “links” to do things that in other countries get done within time and paperwork? Corruption runs deep and us pretty much the norm. Even if we get rid of the ‘corrupt Babylon people’ it will just make way for others who were raised by said Babylon

Advice

Invest heavily, like how they invest in kfc but do that towards education. Without a smart nation, only the ruling class will have a say and power and continue to drive the country into the ground without regard for the rest of the population. Stop selling off what’s left of Jamaica’s resources to foreigners and foreign interests and maybe invest within. There are so many talented and brilliant Jamaican’s not given a chance. Next get rid of the corrupt politicians and organize communities to be more active and progressive. There are lots more we can do but education needs to be paramount. Jamaican’s are naturally brilliant, even the more rural countryman can teach you so many things in 1 day, imagine if he had resources and support to expand his mind? Jamaica would be unstoppable. Nations like the days when people settled for a factory job… or grateful to be someone’s pre to…. this can only happen when the workers are without options and less educated. An educated person today will realize the opportunities that exist today, are endless.

Advice

Jamaica is a third world country taking on first world problems when we have problem on our own that needs fixing. Young men are being forgotten about leaving dons and musicians to give them moral guidance and that’s easily soaked in by them because the politicians has no distinctive good about them. They would easily be dons (and many of them are) if it means profit and power. Most of universities are %80 female if not more and young men have to worry about feeding their families instead of pursuing higher education, a system that has gone rogue, more in it for the profit and spreading idiologies, costing more than what the average citizen can afford. Jobs don’t pay as much as crime these day. I just don’t see the light.

Do people understand what is culture and how it works? Saying love each other is one but does hyprocacy allow ones to corelate properly..so you might be.reading this and.we.might very well be related by blood and how do we find and eventually what does it matter..what elements of life does make sense to you..do dogs eat dogs like people do or it is just rhetoric.. i think the people need to respect life itself and try to live it right with each other..too much ego and hype causing suffering and death..just because people not to live in the light of truth of the holy spirit..so we keep failing..because you can not force humans to treat humanity right!
