Reach Falls is an outdoor recreational attraction owned and operated by the Urban Development Corporation. It is s located approximately 45 minutes east of Port Antonio, Portland on 4.6 hectares of property hidden in the Montane Forest on the John Crow Mountain Range. It boasts tremendous natural beauty, serene atmosphere, cascading waterfalls, refreshing pools, a hidden cave and varying biodiversity that provides visitors with a memorable experience.
The Falls were said to have been discovered by runaway slaves from plantations in the neighboring parish of St. Thomas who sought refuge in the hills of the John Crow mountains.
Even though it is not as well known as the Dunn’s River Falls in St. Ann, Reach Falls is labeled as one of Jamaica’s amazingly scenic rivers with its main waterfall being about seven metres high and twenty metres wide with a large natural pool below which is great for swimming and a hidden cave at the bottom of the falls. The Falls were featured in parts of the famous Tom Cruise 1988 movie, Cocktail. The travel site Tripadvisor gives this adventurous attraction a 4.5-star rating and so do the Facebook fans.
